Liam Gallagher: 'I wanted Oasis to be like Lennon and McCartney'
Liam Gallagher is known for his public feuds – most often with his brother Noel, but with other bands too, including just this week with The Kaiser Chiefs.
What he’s less known for is showing off his softer side. But it does exist, as he revealed in an interview in The Telegraph today. It emerged when he was talking about what he had hoped Oasis would become. “I’ve always wanted to learn how to write. I’ve always wanted to be part of a band. But Oasis weren’t that kind of a band.”
What he wanted was the dream of “Lennon and McCartney. I wanted Gallagher-Gallagher writing music. I guess that’s what I really wanted from that band. Gallagher-Gallagher.”

The chance of that happening these days does seem to fade with every new Gallagher feud. The last one came after Noel accused him of being aggressive towards his partner, Debbie Gwyther.
Even in his introspective mood the former Oasis frontman has time to have a go at his sibling. “In his big daft head, Noel thinks he’s Pink Floyd. But realistically it’s M People. And that’s doing M People a disservice. It’s The Lighthouse Family!”
The provocation for the rant? He’s discovered that his brother had given Liam’s new music a negative review. So is there any going back?
“I’m quite happy doing this now, ’cause I don’t have to see that miserable little c--- with his little Simon Cowell Cuban heels that give him a high-rise.”

That’s a no, then. Liam is currently touring with his album, Why Me? Why Not. But he thought this day might never come after his last band, Beady Eye, imploded.
“I thought: I need to go away and come up with a cunning Doctor Evil plan. I wasn’t seeing my kids, and what I was going be left with out of the divorce [from Appleton] wasn’t much – about a million quid.
Despite all that his only regrets are personal ones. “I regret dicking me missuses about, and breaking up families, and me kids having to go through all the bullshit they read in the papers.”
