How to Watch 'The Idol'HBO

We’re only two episodes into The Idol, and it’s safe to say we’re in for a wildly stressful ride. HBO’s controversial series—starring Lily-Rose Depp and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye—follows Joceyln (Depp), an impressionable pop star who will stop at nothing to succeed. After her mother dies, Jocelyn tries to reinvent herself. But her plans are uprooted when she meets Tedros (Tesfaye), a music producer with questionable intentions.

Episode One premiered on June 4, setting the stage for a tense season. On June 9, the second episode dropped and kicked things into high gear, when an on-set meltdown leads Jocelyn into Tedros’s arms. “I know there’s a powerful voice inside you,” he says. “I want to reach down and pull it out.” This week, those brave enough to continue watching will see how that all plays out in Episode Three. What happens is anyone’s guess, but, based on what we've seen so far, it can’t be good.

Prior to the premiere, The Idol earned some unsavory buzz for its reportedly toxic on-set culture. After debuting at the Cannes Film Festival last month, it's also received a trough of negative reviews. Did that stop people from tuning in? The network was counting on a big fat no, but we’re not so sure. According to Variety, the first episode pulled in 913,000 views. Meanwhile, a clip of BLACKPINK star Jennie dancing on the show has garnered 2.6 million views and counting.

Given the star-studded cast, it's possible that The Idol will simply remain a vessel for viral Internet moments, but that doesn't mean HBO's splashy new outing is in the gutter. There’s still a chance for the plot to pull in more viewers and hold the audience’s attention. Well, reader, we're about to find out. Keep reading for how to watch the next episode of The Idol.
