Leslie Jones Shuts Down the Red Carpet with an Epic Grace Jones Tribute

You can’t help but notice Leslie Jones. The comedienne’s flair for drama is evident in everything she does—including her style statements. At last night’s Time 100 Gala, Jones opted to pay homage to an icon known for her game-changing fashion—Grace Jones—in a custom dress by one of the evening’s honorees, Christian Siriano. Echoing the lines of a tuxedo jacket with its strong shoulders and double breasted design, it called to mind the power suits that featured on the covers of classic LPs like Nightclubbing and the androgyny that typified the icon’s onstage costumes. With her long legs on display and a pair of cat-eye sunglasses adding the requisite touch of cool, Jones was undeniably chic. She took things one step further by recreating Grace’s signature flattop and adding on a swipe of navy lipstick.

While Jones and stylist Brian McPhatter have had fun trying a variety of styles, she relished the chance to reference one of fashion’s enduring divas. After the event, Jones asked fans for their opinion in an exuberant Instagram post: “So did I pull it off or what?? “Pull up to the Bumper” bitches!!” While Grace Jones herself has yet to chime in, it’s safe to say that Jones delivered one hell of a tribute.
