Leslie Jones and Christian Siriano Have the Perfect Date Night at the Time100 Gala
“I didn’t think anyone would really respond,” said Leslie Jones about her famous tweet from June 2016 asking for help finding a red carpet dress for the Ghostbusters premiere. “I’m glad he did!” The “he” is designer Christian Siriano, who Jones calls a friend, and who she wrote about for this year’s Time 100 issue. The duo might have met in the digital age, but their connection was very much rooted in real life with the pair heading to last night’s celebratory gala, together.
“Working with Leslie is so much fun,” said Siriano, who added, “we laugh so hard in our fittings. It puts a smile on everyone’s face when she walks in the room, and it’s infectious.” That masterful chemistry also weaved its way into Jones’s ensemble for last night, a double-breasted tuxedo minidress. “He makes women just feel good…sexy and cool and confident,” said Jones, who punctuated her look with velvet sunnies (by Siriano) and a Judith Leiber clutch. “What we created for her tonight, was so different for her but I think next time we will go for more color,” said Siriano of the polished minidress.
And while the duo partied with everyone from Jennifer Lopez to fellow Siriano muse, author and activist Janet Mock, the evening was truly a celebration of their affection for each other as individuals and professionals. “Having Leslie write my Time piece is special,” said Siriano, who added, “she puts herself out there in the world to see and judge and it’s inspiring. I want to be more like that.” As for Jones, she views Siriano as her driving force in fashion, pushing her to test the waters and experiment. “It’s exciting,” said Jones, “[and] I get to be whoever I want to be.” Above, see snaps from the duo’s night out.
