Like their owners, each vagina is individual and unique – yet, last year, capsules from Kourtney Kardashian Barker’s wellness brand Lemme came under fire for claiming to be able to alter vaginal odour and taste.

Called Lemme Purr, the capsules came after the brand launched gummies of the same name and include four different probiotic strains.

These include the lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus reuteri, and Bacillus coagulans strains.

According to Lemme, these probiotic strains can promote healthy vaginal pH levels, support vaginal odour, support vaginal taste, and promote urinary tract health.

But, a year on, Valerie Stark-McQuillan, Developer of Women’s Bio-Balance Gummies, is still disputing these claims. She says: "Every vagina has its own distinct scent, discharge, and taste influenced by genetics, hormones, diet, hygiene, health, and life stages like age, pregnancy, and medication. The vagina's pH level, regulated by Lactobacilli bacteria, dictates its characteristics, protecting against infections. Imbalances in these bacteria can lead to unpleasant odours, unusual discharge, and taste changes."

When asked about the difference between the gummies and the capsules, Lemme replied on an Instagram comment: “We believe in offering choices—whether you prefer a delicious gummy or a sugar-free capsule, we've got you covered! Plus, our Lemme Purr Capsule includes a patented probiotic strain specially designed for women who experience recurring UT [urinary tract] issues.”

But, Stark-McQuillan adds: "Due to this individuality and complexity, it’s unrealistic to assert that a specific bacterium or ingredient can universally sweeten the taste or scent of a vagina. However, maintaining Lactobacilli balance helps prevent urinary tract infections, thrush, and bacterial vaginosis, crucial for a healthy vaginal ecosystem. Prioritising vaginal health through hygiene, diet, safe practices, and timely medical attention is essential for overall well-being."

So while these capsules could do the trick, like all other supplements, you should only purchase them after talking to your GP about any concerns you may have.
