Lea Michele Shares Video of Getting Her Eyebrows and Mustache Waxed

There was a time when Hollywood beauty was one big illusion of perfection, but — thanks in part to social media — that time seems to be ending. The latest celebrity to open up about her flaws and get real about her not-always-glamorous beauty routines is Lea Michele.

The 29-year-old actress posted a few videos to Snapchat yesterday showing her unfiltered waxing routine, according to the Daily Mail. One of them showed her getting her eyebrows shaped, while another revealed her having hair removed from her upper lip. The latter was captioned, “#mustache,” in a transparent move that was refreshingly un-diva-like.

“This is the real beauty, you guys,” she joked to the camera. “This it happens when you’re half Jewish and half Italian.” The playful brunette appeared to be having the beauty treatments done in her kitchen by “brow genius” Stevi Christine, according to the Daily Mail.

When it comes to beauty maintenance, the struggle is real, and Michele seems to know this and take it in stride. “This is going to hurt really bad,” she wanted her Snapchat followers to know, as she winced and steeled herself against the pain of the inevitable ripping off of a wax strip from beneath her brow — a moment that can be described as momentary unpleasantness or temporary torture, depending on who you ask.

We’re suckers for anyone who will broadcast her pain and/or embarrassment in the name of beauty for all the world to see — and to help break down the “I woke up like this” attitude of some stars who insist on keeping up a facade.

Leading the charge is real-beauty icon Mindy Kaling, whose zit-cream split-screen selfie earlier this year was nothing short of glorious.

That zit cream in your 30’s life. At least I’m not going on the Tonight Show later today. ????

Writer, blogger, and Huggle social-app founder Stina Sanders was another of our mustache-removal idols when she posted a pic to Instagram expressing faux (we think!) embarrassment over her “de-fuzzing Monday” ritual.

Funny girl Chrissy Teigen Snapchatted herself recently with a face full of spot cream, claiming, “I think this is just spot cream but I found too many spots.” But the pic wasn’t quite as hilarious as her haphazardly applied sheet mask, which showed a one-eyed Teigen looking hilariously defeated.

And then there was Katy Perry’s epic “mummy” selfie, which looked more like she was suffering from an injury than receiving a beauty treatment.

And actress Brooklyn Decker broadcast her pore-strip routine on Instagram with the total sport caption, “Acne-1. Decker-0.”

Zits, pores, facial hair — what more can we ask for in celebrity social-media transparency? Of course, that’s not to say that female celebrities — and females in general — aren’t still held to superhigh standards of beauty. But social media seems to be giving outspoken stars outlets for expressing their true selves and helping other women to internalize the fact that even women who have the money to employ full-time makeup artists and beauty experts to keep them looking flawless still have, well, flaws.

Earlier this year, 26-year-old actress Ashley Benson told Ocean Drive magazine that she cried when she found her her size-2 frame was considered too fat for a role.”I cried for 30 minutes, but then you have to let it roll off your shoulders or it could cause a serious eating disorder,” she said. Benson added that when she sees overly Photoshopped versions of her face, she’s disappointed. “I hate to think that girls are like, ‘She’s so skinny! Her skin is so perfect!’ I have pimples just like they do.”

So she did what any celebrity with more than 13 million followers would do: She showed them what her real skin looks like and what it takes to her face looking fresh.

It’s the new trend. ????

Truth be told, it isn’t really so bad to wake up like this. … Is it?
