In case you haven’t heard, a weighted blanket is the new must-have item to help poor sleepers get some much needed rest. The pressure from lying underneath one releases serotonin to make you feel happy and calm, and users swear it helps them relax, fall asleep faster, and stay asleep throughout the night.

We’ve seen a handful of weighted blankets in the Good Housekeeping Textiles Lab and reviewed things like materials used, weight distribution, ease of cleaning, and more. Truth be told, aside from some variances in the fabrications, there isn’t too much of a difference between the models in the market-after all, a heavy blanket is a heavy blanket and they all give the same result to help you sleep. So when we found out that Layla was launching a weighted blanket that actually seemed different than the rest, we couldn’t wait to try it out.

The first thing that stood out about Layla was the reversible fabric. Like its reversible mattress that has a soft and firm side, Layla’s weighted blanket can be flipped from the cotton side (if you prefer a smooth, natural feel) to fleece fabric (if you want a cozy, plush material). On top of that, the entire blanket is machine washable, unlike most others where you have to clean the duvet cover separately. (Just keep in mind that because it’s weighted, you’ll want to make sure to use a washing machine that can handle a heavy load.) The fill is similar to others on the market: It uses glass beads to add the weight, which is usually preferred over plastic pellets because they’re more dense and less bulky.

If you’ve shopped for weighted blankets before, you’ve probably noticed that you can choose between different weights, aiming for roughly 10% of your body weight. Layla mixes things up here, too, offering bed sizes instead-a twin weighs 15 pounds, a queen weighs 20, and a king is 25. My husband and I have had to take turns with our single-user weighted blanket based on who was more stressed or who more desperately needed better quality sleep on any given night, so I breathed a sigh of relief knowing this one would allow two people use it at the same time. Because the weight is spread out over a king, it didn’t feel quite as heavy as the twin-size 15-pound one, but I personally liked the fact that it was less constricting.

The best part: Good weighted blankets cost around $200, but Layla’s starts at just $129. The brand also offers free shipping and a 120-night trial so you can return the blanket for any reason, even if it's used. But based on the top-quality sleep you’ll be getting, we doubt you’ll want to part with it.
