Layered Eyeliner Is the Easiest Way to Elevate Your Signature Wings

Several Allure editors ride or die for winged liner. Every day, they line their lids with liquid liner to create perfect flicks — without fail. And they're not the only ones who live for the look. Winged liner has become the signature look of people everywhere. If you're one of those lucky ones with steady hands and patience for day — creating cat eyes every morning takes a minute — we salute you. And we're here to offer you a fun way to switch up your go-to look from time to time. Enter layered eyeliner. It's the latest spin on the graphic eyeliner trend taking over Instagram and — chicken or the egg? — celebrities' faces. One way of looking at it is that makeup artists are getting bored of the classic black liner look. Their solution: adding a second and/or third color on top.

If you already know how to create winged liner, then pulling off the look at home will be second nature to you. After drawing black flicks with your no-fail technique, trace along the top of the first strike with a bright hue. (In case you need colored liquid liner suggestions, we're fans of the L'Oreal Infallible Paints Eyeliner and Kat Von D's Ink Liner.) As for those who have no idea how to create the perfect cat eye look, you can watch the video at the bottom of the page to learn a pretty simple strategy.

In addition to lining the top of black wings, some makeup artists on Instagram have also drawn the second line around the perimeter of the whole wing. You can also top the double wings with a third colorful shade, if you're feeling nasty. Or you could go all out with a full rainbow of layered eyeliner.
