Law and Order: SVU fans, prepare to say goodbye to Detective Amanda Rollins when season 24 premieres later this fall. While actress Kelli Giddish has expressed her gratitude for her time on the popular NBC show, it seems that fellow co-star Mariska Hargitay is having a hard time seeing her leave.

On August 24, Kelli announced that viewers will see her as Detective Rollins for the last time in Law and Order: SVU season 24. “Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the ‘Law & Order’ family for the last 12 years.”

The next day, Variety reported that Kelli didn’t make the decision. According to the outlet, it was “a call made from above” to “keep the show as up to date and current as possible.” What’s more, Mariska reportedly tried to push back on the decision, but it was already a done deal.

Now, it appears that Mariska, who portrays Detective Olivia Benson, is giving her two cents on the matter in her own way. Shortly after news broke about Kelli leaving, Mariska took to her Instagram Stories to post two different images.

In the first slide, she shared an Instagram post from a fan account featuring herself and Kelli on the set of Law and Order: SVU. “Once a SVU, Always a SVU ❤ You have an amazing soul Kelli,” the post’s caption read. In the second slide, Mariska shared another Instagram post with a quote from Ernest Hemingway, which read: “You are so brave and quiet I forget you are suffering.”

Although the Law and Order leading lady didn’t comment on Kelli’s initial Instagram announcement post, it seems like she continues to support her real-life friend. In the full statement, Kelli thanked Mariska and others for their “incredible work together” over the past decade.

Speaking with Smashing Interviews Magazine in October 2021, Kelli revealed how rewarding it has been filming scenes with Mariska.

“Those scenes are what I look forward to most in doing the show now because there’s some magic that happens between me and Mariska, two strong women,” she told the outlet. “It’s what makes the show exciting to work on.”
