Law & Order fans are as loyal as they come. But now, after SVU and Organized Crime have had several breaks, many are beginning to lose their patience. Unfortunately, a new year doesn’t mean a new and steady schedule for the hit shows.

Since their premieres in late September, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime have been airing new episodes back-to-back on Thursday nights. Throughout their latest fall TV run — SVU’s 23rd season and Organized Crime’s second season — the NBC dramas have gone off air three separate times. But even with the holiday season done and over with, there is another delay. That’s right — Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime will not be airing new episodes this Thursday night.

On January 20, moments after the procedural shows aired their latest episodes, the show’s production company, Wolf Entertainment, made an unexpected announcement on Twitter. “Distance makes the heart grow fonder!” the tweet read. “We'll be back with new episodes of #SVU and #OrganizedCrime after the Olympics!”

When are Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime coming back?

Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime are returning to NBC with new episodes on Thursday, February 24 at 9 p.m. ET and 10 p.m. ET, respectively. After hearing the news, Law & Order fans immediately expressed their disappointment. “How many [hiatuses] this year? 23?” one person wrote to which another fan replied, “Right!?!”

But there is good reason for this current break. Starting on February 3, NBC will begin airing the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The special TV event will feature a total of 15 winter sports and over 200 athletes competing on behalf of Team U.S.A. Once the Winter Games wrap up on February 20, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime will resume their regular Thursday night schedules.

SVU and Organized Crime fans can anticipate their favorite dramas coming back at the end of next month with special guest Jack McCoy himself! Folks may remember actor Sam Waterston portraying a justice-seeking district attorney in the original Law & Order show from 1994 to 2010. Now, he’s returning to where it all began (hello, Law & Order revival!), and fans will soon see him in action again.
