Laverne Cox is Beyoncé's doppelgänger, according to the internet.

The internet has mistaken Laverne Cox for Beyoncé at the U.S. Open on Monday night.

Twitter user Choni Francis, an actor and producer, posted a video of whom he thought was Beyoncé sitting in the stands of the U.S. Open while watching Serena Williams play the first singles match of her last tournament.

"#Beyoncé at the #USOpen," Francis wrote, captioning a video showcasing the star sitting in the stands with a black mask on, revealing only her eyes and hair. But, little did he know, it wasn't Beyoncé under the mask but another celebrity icon: Cox.

An hour later, after Twitter users pointed out the fact that it was actually Cox in the stands, Francis tweeted, "My bad.. I wasn't trying to be funny I promise." Followed by another Tweet where he corrected himself, "I got to excited to see #Beyoncé and though it was her my bad.. it's @Lavernecox."

The mistaken identity came to Cox's attention, and she responded to the commotion on her Instagram, sharing Francis' tweet, along with many other screenshots of tweets reacting to the fact that it was the Orange is the New Black actress and not Queen Bey sitting in the stands at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

"Not me getting mistaken for @Beyonce at the #USOpen tonight then trending on Twitter as the internet cackles over the mistaken identity," she wrote in the caption.
"These tweets are funny as hell. Enjoy!!! Go @serenawilliams #GOAT #SerenaWilliams #Beyonce"

Ironically, Cox shared a video of herself as she was getting ready for the U.S. Open, playing Beyoncé's song, "PURE/HONEY" over the video before the whole misidentification happened.

"Ready to go celebrate the #GOAT @serenawilliams at the #USOpen tonight. Go Serena!!!" she captioned the post.

Former president Bill Clinton, actress Queen Latifah, actor Hugh Jackman, and even Vogue editor Anna Wintour were in attendance to watch Williams play. With stars like that, it's not a stretch to assume that Williams' friend Bey could have been in attendance. Plus, the 40-year-old singer previously watched her tennis legend friend during the Wimbledon final in 2016.

Williams defeated Danka Kovinic, 6-3, 6-3 during the first round on Monday and will now face Anett Kontaveit in the second round on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Maybe Beyoncé will actually be in attendance this time! Only time will tell.
