Truth be told, Lauren Conrad has come a long way since her reality-TV days. There’s no doubt in our minds that motherhood completely transformed her career and life goals into something else entirely. Conrad went from acting to fashion designing and momma of two (she recently welcomed baby Charlie Wolfe) in what seems like the blink of an eye.

But, as every working mother knows too well, juggling motherhood with a career ain’t easy. And, if you’re building a fashion brand while caring for a newborn, then you definitely have your work cut out for you. Conrad, a successful businesswoman, shared her shiny pearls of wisdom with Us Weekly, beckoning us to wonder if there really is a secret sauce to doing it all.

“It is important to separate things so that you can really focus,” she told Us Weekly this week while promoting her and Hannah Skvarla‘s upcoming The Little Market Pop-Up Shop (which, by the way, sells the cutest gifts for good causes!). We’ve been told to separate our home and work life many a times, but for some reason coming from her really packs a punch in our mommy books. Even more importantly, she explains why delegating is a must when you’re running a business.

“You don’t want to be spending time with your kids while having one eye on your phone. You want to be able to have undivided attention with them. … It’s all about prioritizing what’s important to you and what you really need to be there for. I think when you’re running a business … it’s easy be like, ‘I need to do everything.’ But you can’t do everything really well, so we’re fortunate because we’ve been able to build an amazing team of people who share our passion. They work really hard.”

Still, the former MTV star doesn’t think you should completely hide your work life from your kids. When Conrad set up her shop at Fashion Island in New Port Beach, California, she brought her one-month-old along. “We really enjoy our jobs, so I think that’s something we also hope for our children is that you find a passion, you find something you really care about and if you can use it to do good, that’s amazing, ” she concludes.

If moms watching Conrad with curiosity learn anything about her approach to motherhood it’s that prioritizing is truly the name of the juggling game.
