The Original 'Jurassic Park' Cast Will Return in 'Jurassic World 3' Because Nostalgia Finds a Way

Fitting with our never-ending cycle of reboot and nostalgia dominated culture, Universal is trying to freshen up its lame—yet popular!—Jurassic World series by going back to the beginning. Deadline is reporting that Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum will be returning for Jurassic World 3, bringing back the beloved roles they originated back in 1993.

Jurassic World debuted to mediocre reviews, but had such a phenomenal box office showing that it earned a sequel in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which had an even worse critical reception, but remained one of the top grossing films of 2018. Fallen Kingdom attempted to stoke fan's excitement by bringing back the beloved character Ian Malcom, made famous by the shirtless, sweaty Jeff Goldblum in the original 1993 Jurassic Park. But, box office numbers aside, Goldblum wasn't enough to win over critics, as the film is still sitting around a 48 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, both for critics and audiences.

The new film is written by Emily Carmichael, who worked on the scripts for Pacific Rim Uprising and The Black Hole, alongside director Trevorrow. Their script is off a story by Derek Connolly and Trevorrow, the creative duo who penned the first Jurassic World and its sequel. All three of the returning characters have been back for the long-running franchise before. Dern and Neill showed up in Jurassic Park III and Goldblum starred in The Lost World.

As of now, we don't have a release date on Jurassic World 3, but Deadline reports that production will start early 2020. The second film ended with the lovable, friendly dinosaurs finding their way off the island and into society, so Dr. Ellie Sattler, Alan Grant, and Ian Malcolm are probably going to have their hands full in this one.
