The Last Kingdom season five dropped on Netflix last week (9th March), as fans of the fantasy drama say goodbye to their favourite characters for the final time. Well, until the film, anyway.

*Spoilers* The final episode sees Uhtred infiltrate the fortress (twice) to not only murder his cousin Wihtgar, but to finally reclaim the land back as his own.

Elsewhere, Haesten sacrifice himself to save Sihtric, Finan, Father Pyrlig and Hild, while King Edward starts an almighty battle when he brings an army to Bebbanburg's gates.

Eventually, King Constantin sets up a temporary truce with Uhtred on the basis that Northumbria stays independent, and King Edward's son Aethelstan kills himself after admitting his involvement in daughter Queen Aelflaed's death.

Fans have been praising the finale, calling it the perfect full circle moment for Uhtred. "Finished The Last Kingdom, it was amazing. The finale was perfect and Alexander Dreymon slayed it once again. Faith in TV shows restored," one person wrote.

Another put, "The end of The Last Kingdom was really perfect. It was one of the most well-constructed and written endings I've ever seen.I never had any doubts that TLK would end in an EPIC fashion."

Another said, " Just finished The Last Kingdom season 5 and I couldn’t have asked for a better ending."

Looks like we'll be watching the series on repeat until the film comes out. How about you?
