Larry Fitzgerald reveals Drew Stanton finished Cardinals season on torn ACL

Here’s an interesting one: according to Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald, quarterback Drew Stanton played the final two games of the team’s season on a torn ACL.

Fitzgerald revealed the news in a tweet he sent on Sunday night, after the Cardinals’ season-ending 26-24 win over the Seahawks in Seattle:

Stanton started four games for Arizona, two in November and the final two of the year; the team was 3-1 in those games despite Stanton’s highly pedestrian numbers: he completed just half of his passes, with six touchdowns and four interceptions in his starts.

While it’s admirable that Stanton toughed it out for his teammates – Carson Palmer suffered a season-ending broken arm in October – Fitzgerald could have gotten his franchise in a bit of trouble in his effort to praise the quarterback.

While Stanton did miss time with what the team called a sprained knee, he hasn’t been listed on the Cardinals’ injury report since Week 13. The NFL could question Arizona, though recent incidents of teams not reporting injuries haven’t led to much in the way of punishment.
