Justin and Britney were together from 1998 to 2002 when they both were rising to fame and together became one of the biggest couples in show business. At the same time, Justin was in the midst of breaking out with one of the biggest boy bands in the world at the time: *NSYNC. The band consists of Justin, JC Chasez (who also starred on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club), Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, and Joey Fatone and with hit singles like “Bye Bye Bye” and “Tearing Up My Heart” they soared through the Billboard charts and the hearts of many fans.
As revealed in the 2022 documentary Framing Britney Spears, Justin leaked that “Britney wasn’t a virgin” following their split, leading to hurtful headlines and reports about the “Gimme More” singer. It took nearly 20 years after their split—and the demands of fans around the world—for Justin to issue a considerable apology to the star.

He finally took to Instagram in February 2021 to share his thoughts, writing in part, “I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond. I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears
Lance Bass’ Reaction To Britney Spears’ book
Lance Bass reacted to Britney’s book with open arms. The singer assured that the *NSYNC members “all the time.” Regarding the book, he told People, “Yes, we’re all good. People will survive.”
In an impromptu interview at Los Angeles International Airport, Bass was spotted with the book and responded to TMZ’s paparazzi, “Everyone has their own opinion. I just feel like the world is so full of hate right now that we need to practice a little forgiveness. Britney did, so let’s take a note from her.” He continued, “Everyone deserves to tell their story; she did. I hope the fans can find some forgiveness.”
He even gushed about the Michelle Williams-voiced audiobook “sounds amazing.” “Maybe she should do my book!” he quipped. Back in 2007, Bass published his own memoir, Out of Sync, which debuted at No. 22 on The New York Times best-seller list.
Sources who are familiar with the situation told TMZ that the *NSYNC members “have nothing but love for Justin, and they’re supporting him through all the harsh criticism due to The Woman in Me.” Britney wrote about her relationship with Justin in the book and noted how *NSYNC viewed themselves in the public sphere.
“They were white boys, but they loved hip-hop. To me, that’s what separated them from the Backstreet Boys, who seemed very consciously to position themselves as a white group,” she wrote. “*NSYNC hung out with black artists. Sometimes I thought they tried too hard to fit in.” She provided an example of when she went out on a date with the “SexyBack” singer. “One day J and I were in New York, going to parts of town I’d never been to before. Walking our way was a guy with a huge, blinged-out medallion. He was flanked by two giant security guards,” The “Womanizer” singer recalled. “J got all excited and said, so loud, ‘Oh yeah, fo shiz, fo shiz! Ginuwiiiine! What’s up, homie?’
” A post featuring Michelle Williams reading the excerpt went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Justin Timberlake’s Reaction To Britney Spears’ book
Justin Timberlake hasn’t issued an official response to Britney Spears’ Woman in Me book but sources said that he’s keeping his distance. “Justin will always be supportive of Britney and all of her endeavors, but he’s trying to distance himself from her upcoming book,” a source told Us Weekly. “It’s not something he’s focusing too much on in terms of anything she might discuss when it comes to their former relationship.”B
Before the official release of the book, the *NSYNC star was said to be somewhat dreading the upcoming contents of the book. “Justin’s not going to be happy,” a source told Us Weekly, hinting that Spears “goes after him hard.” But “it’s not Britney’s intention to skewer anyone,” added a third source. “She’s just going to relay the facts from her perspective.”
Indeed, that aligns with what other sources revealed. “[Justin]’s very curious what she’ll reveal from their relationship,” one source explained to Page Six. “It’s eating at him.” Another said that the book isn’t a “takedown” of anyone. “This is Britney finally getting a chance to tell her empowering story,” they said, “and it’s nothing more than that.”
Sources told Entertainment Tonight that Justin’s main focus is his family. “Justin has been focusing on his own family and trying not to concern himself with Britney’s memoir,” the source says. “In recent years, Justin has tried to be supportive of Britney from a distance. They dated so long ago, but he still has respect for her. Justin and Jessica just want everyone to grow and evolve instead of continuing to bring up the past.”
By far the biggest revelation in The Woman in Me, Britney revealed that she was pregnant with his baby during the relationship, but they decided to get an abortion. “I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” she wrote. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”The pop icon admitted that she “agreed not to have the baby” but seemed to have some regrets about the decision they made more than 20 years ago. “I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it,” she revealed. “And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”
