Lakeview's Kalyn Smith is Enquirer Athlete of the Week winner
The fans have spoken.
The winner of the latest Enquirer Athlete of the Week fan poll is Kalyn Smith of the Lakeview girls soccer team.
Fans got behind Smith to help her edge fellow Athletes of the Week finalists Cade Oxley, Andrew Berryhill and Kaitlyn Love. Smith 73% of the vote by the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline. Thanks to her fans, she will receive an Enquirer Athlete of the Week T-shirt.
Lakeview won its second straight All-City Girls Soccer Tournament, defeating Harper Creek in the final, 2-1. Kalyn Smith had a goal and an assist in the title contest. She also added a goal in the semifinal 4-0 win over Battle Creek Central.
"Kalyn has really come on strong this past week for us. She is out there working hard to press and creating turnovers in the other team's defensive end, which is allowing us to possess the ball more and have more shot opportunities on goal,” Lakeview soccer coach Heather Albee said.
