Lafayette recognized as top city in the state, ranked 10th friendliest in US

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– We all know the Acadiana area, and Lafayette, more specifically, offers a great quality of life, but now, others across the country will know it too.

It’s hard to beat what Lafayette offers when it comes to quality of life. From employment to entertainment, the Hub City is second to none when you ask around, and a couple of recent surveys reflect a similar sentiment.

“That sort of exposure is just you really can’t buy it,” Ben Bethelot, president of the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Bureau said. “It’s huge for our area and we look forward to ride that momentum and continue to try to get people to come visit. The U.S. News and world report tabs Lafayette as the best city in the state to live in. Getting a six out of ten ranking life cost of living and things to do. The city known for its outstanding cuisine, its great music and a calendar full of festivals and events.”

“The city known for its outstanding cuisine, its great music and a calendar full of festivals and events,” Bethelot said.

Southern Living, another national magazine, ranks Lafayette as the 10th friendliest city in the United States. Charleston, South Carolina took top billing in that survey.

Berthelot said recognition like this only boosts the image of Lafayette and the Acadiana area.

“Two and one week is really big,” Berthelot said. “And so it’s you know, it’s something that we’re very, very proud of. And I think it’s a great thing for our community. “And one of the great things about this area is people are really proud of our area. So what you see happening is people are sharing those articles on social media. So it helps to really carry that exposure even further with their friends and families and and leads to such a positive thing for our community.”

Lafayette tourism continues to be one of the main financial tools of this thriving community, generating millions of dollars a year in revenue.

Lafayette beat out Shreveport and Baton Rouge, which were 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Nationally, Lafayette ranks 84th, as the best place to live.
