Lafayette 148 Resort 2022

Designed as a continuation of fall, creative director Emily Smith’s resort, or “winter/holiday,” collection for Lafayette 148 continued to offer effortless luxury with a concentration around buy now, wear now (and a sprinkle of holiday) fashions.

“We wanted to start around the idea of luxury, soft textures for winter, then add a juxtaposition with hard, masculine crocodile [embossed leather], balancing that out with luxe cashmere, feminine pleating, holiday jewel colors, and a print to match,” she said over Zoom.

The look: Spanning from lush, sophisticated winter layering to easy, polished workwear and relaxed evening and holiday attire.

Quote of note: “We wanted to build this so it felt like a continuation of fall. This is about resetting, which really encompassed mostly this idea around sustainable sourcing and continuing ways to approach the collections — from downsizing it, being more focused to honing in on making sure we have responsible sourcing and all those things that emphasize that. For winter/holiday, we wanted to continue with this idea of reigniting, rejoicing and reconnecting, considering this will be our season all back together. We wanted to make this a moment to celebrate freedom, in a sense.”

Key pieces: A hand-painted camouflage-esq leather jacket and midi skirt with hand-braided detail; chunky mix-and-match monochromatic knits from head to toe (including cashmere socks with shearling slides); the statement pant of the season — a high-waisted crop trouser (also converted into a strapless jumpsuit for holiday); accordion-pleated frocks and skirts for a return to the office place; an undone evening wrapped tuxedo blazer. Outerwear and accessories continue to shine, from plush, reversible shearling to an ultra-cool all-black embossed crocodile calfskin trench, new box clutch bags, and larger croc-embossed handbags and riding boots.

The takeaway: Overall, Smith’s resort collection for Lafayette 148 nailed the idea of sophisticated, effortless luxury for the modern woman.
