Why drink a boring medicinal-tasting green juice when you can play doctor while you’re act it? Just a few minutes ago, Lady Gaga Instagrammed two photos of LA-based organic juice shop Kreation’s Juicekription shot. The fluid—meant for drinking despite its syringe-like container—is called Beautiful since it’s designed to benefit your nails, hair, and skin. Ingredients include green tea, activated silicon, boron, and zinc. Gaga wrote, “Only in Hollywood. The Beauty Shot. I thought that was vodka and a Valium. Turns out it’s green tea and active silicon.” Beautifying potions and concoctions are de rigueur in Hollywood these days—there are even IV nutrient drips with “beautifying” vitamin supplements. Many might consider them expensive and unnecessary if you live a typically healthy lifestyle, but Hollywood was never about being “typical.” A second photo of Gaga “injecting” the shot into her mouth is captioned: “Most fun juice box ever. Playing doctor.”

We spoke to New York City-based dermatologist Dr. Sejal Shah about whether ingesting these ingredients will actually make you more beautiful in any way. “Green tea is great for drinking and rich in antioxidants, which are shown to have benefits for your skin,” Shah told Yahoo Beauty. “Zinc is interesting because it’s involved in a lot of processes in your body. If you are deficient in zinc, you can have hair loss, and studies have shown that it can help with acne. But it’s very hard to be deficient in zinc. People do take supplements, but you really don’t need to.” Dr. Shah noted that activated silicon is potentially useful for collagen production and is found in cosmetics and some vitamins for hair and nail growth. Boron, however, is a trace mineral found in nature, and Shah says it can actually be toxic in large amounts and is unnecessary as a supplement. “No one prescribes boron.”

The Kreation Juice website doesn’t say anything about the Juicekription products, but between a shot of vodka and a shot of beautifying juice, the healthier option just might be this.
