If you're wondering how Lady Gaga's so-called "clean french braid" managed to stay in place for the 2023 Oscars last night, we've got the answer for you. The nominee for best original song's longtime hairstylist, Frederic Aspiras, used a $22 hair gel that you can easily find at your local Ulta.

Aspiras teamed up with haircare brand Joico for Gaga's Oscars beauty look and used the brand's JoiGel Firm "for added control and hold while braiding," the brand said in a statement. Aspiras added that the gel gives the braid "a very smooth and flawless finish."
The styling product claims to seal in shine and hydration, in addition to safeguarding hair from pollutants and humidity. It also aims to provide volume "without stiffness or stickiness." This gel should come as the second to last step in the braid assembly process as you're "cross-weaving three sections of hair." Be sure to put a generous helping of the gel on the back of your hand when styling. Even if you're not looking to create a braid as ornate as Gaga's, you should be able to lean on the JoiGel Firm Styling Gel to keep your most elaborate hairstyles in place.
