Lady Gaga Brought Bradley Cooper Onstage for a Duet in Las Vegas Last Night

A Star Is Born’s Ally and Jackson make a comeback.

While Hollywood’s top talents bounce from one awards show and film festival and after-party to the next, Academy Award best actress nominee Lady Gaga has been keeping herself busy with her day job as a global pop star. She’s been performing at her Enigma residency in Las Vegas, which is set to run until November, and last night, fans got a special surprise treat. (No, not Céline Dion, though yes, we wish!) In a perfect precursor to February’s Oscars, Gaga brought her A Star Is Born director and costar Bradley Cooper onstage for a revival performance of their breakout hit from the film, “Shallow.”

The tune—an earworm which is nominated for an Oscar for best original song, a category it won at this month’s Golden Globes—has proven to be one of the film’s most lasting takeaways; So, naturally, fans went wild. In a video posted by a concertgoer, the stage duet begins with Cooper serenading Gaga with only light guitar accompanying him. Gaga then starts playing the piano as Bradley stares soulfully into her eyes. As the song picks up speed, Cooper starts raising his hands and rocking out, air-punching like an obsessed fan who’s been brought onstage. The clip ends with them sharing a piano bench and hugging it out.

It made for a sort of meta life-imitates-art moment. Fans were thrilled: “I’m counting this as the REAL ending of A Star Is Born, it’s what Ally and Jackson deserved,” one Tweet read. Many others simply replied with a GIF of people crying, playing up the emotional feel of the two stars’ chemistry. (Cue Gaga: “There can be 100 people in a room. . . .”) It’s been reported that “Shallow” will be one of only two of the best song nominees to be performed at the Academy Awards next month, so here’s hoping for more of that good old-fashioned stage magic come February 24.
