Lady Gaga's Minimalist Look for Vogue 's October Cover Was Done With Just $50 of Drugstore Makeup

For A Star Is Born, we're getting a whole new Gaga.

When we think of Lady Gaga, we think of the avant-garde pop star who paused during the Super Bowl Halftime Show to change her eye makeup. But as she shifts into actress (and promo) mode for her new movie A Star Is Born, we're getting a new, softer side of Stefani Germanotta. Our first glimpse comes on the October cover of Vogue, in which Gaga strips away the rhinestone cat eyes and bold colors.

Vogue describes the cover as an introduction to the star's "new pared down look." For it, Gaga still rocks her peroxide-blonde hair and dark, feathered brows. But she's replaced the rest of her typical "artifice" (if you ask Bradley Cooper) with simple, soft pink makeup.

According to Vogue, the entire look was created using makeup by L'Oréal Paris. Gaga's longtime makeup artist Sarah Tanno created the soft, lit-from-within skin using L'Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup and Infallible Longwear Blush Shaping Stick in Sexy-Flush. She sculpted Gaga's brows with Brow Stylist Definer in Brunette and kept her eye look simple with just one shade — Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in 400 Rose Chrome. The matching lips are thanks to Colour Riche Shine Lipstick in Shining Peach. In case you don't have a calculator handy, keep in mind that Lady Gaga's full face of makeup adds up to less than $50.

Lady Gaga shared stills from the shoot on her Instagram, but if you really want to tear up, head over to Tanno's description of what it feels like to create a look for the cover of Vogue.

"Today is one of the most special days of my career," Tanno writes. "Since I was little, Vogue was a bible to me. I have held it as the highest honor and one of my life long goals to work on a cover. I used to look through them and circle makeups I loved and try to recreate them. I would tear the pages out and make wallpaper in my room. Today I have my first American Vogue cover. I can’t help but to immediately remember every struggle I’ve been through, this is my 'hard work pays off' moment and It couldn’t be more special to share this incredible experience with my Haus family." Congratulations to Gaga, Tanno, and to the rest of us, who are heading straight to the drugstore makeup aisle.
