Lady Gaga's Emotional Performance at the 2018 Grammys Was Pure Heaven

Lady Gaga has an exciting year ahead of her. She’s starring in the remake of A Star Is Born, wrapping up her Joanne world tour, and finally fulfilling her dreams of being a Vegas performer. And Sunday, she kicked things off with a show-stopping performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards. Just a few days after debuting an emotional video for the title song off her album Joanne, the singer was stirring heartstrings again with a medley of songs from Joanne.

Playing a white piano covered in angel wings, the pop icon performed an emotional rendition of “Joanne” that she dedicated to her late aunt who inspired the song. “This is for my father’s late sister, Joanne,” she began. “This is for love and compassion, even when you can’t understand.” After moving (probably) all of the audience to tears, she gave a shout-out to the Time’s Up initiative with a simple “Time‘s up,” before beginning the opening chords of “Million Reasons.” She wrapped up the performance by falling back on the angel wings as she belted out the last note.

In addition to wearing the Time’s Up rose and giving a mid-performance shout-out, Lady Gaga has spoken out about sexual harassment and assault in the past. In October, she tweeted #MeToo in solidarity with countless survivors, and her song “Til It Happens to You,” featured in a documentary about campus rape, is about her experiences with sexual assault.
