There are plenty of skin care brands out there, and hundreds are affordable and effective. A high price doesn’t always deliver results. Nonetheless, while La Mer is one of the pricier brands, it’s still coveted by editors, celebs, influencers and more.

If you’ve been dying to try its best-selling, $100+ Crème de la Mer moisturizer, you’ll be happy to know that it’s on sale at Blue Mercury. Right now, the luxury beauty retailer is hosting its Anniversary Celebration through Sept. 22 and offering its BlueRewards members 20% off orders of $150 or more with code HAPPY20. That said, the sale extends to all La Mer skin care products over $150, which is most of them. And La Mer pretty much never goes on sale, so this is definitely a highlight.

Don’t worry — it’s free and easy to become a member, which you can do before checking out. One important thing to note: You’ll enter the promo code after you hit the checkout button, and that’s where you’ll see the discounted price.

If you’re not familiar with La Mer, it has an interesting past. According to the brand, German aerospace physicist Max Huber invented his original cream, Crème de la Mer, while trying to heal burns he’d sustained in the lab. After nearly 12 years and 6,000 experiments, he figured out a fermentation process that transformed sea kelp and other natural ingredients into the brand’s cell-renewing Miracle Broth. The cream reportedly healed and transformed Huber’s skin. Today, La Mer is owned by Estée Lauder, and there are plenty of wild stories about it (including that the brand plays music for the Miracle Broth during the creation process).

That said, La Mer’s Crème de la Mer has a cult-like following and currently has over 6,000 five-star reviews on Blue Mercury’s website. “This product leaves my face with a glow that my friends and family always comment on!” wrote one reviewer. “The cream is thick, so a lot goes far when I emulsify it on my fingers prior to applying. [I’ve] really enjoyed using [this] product for two years now.”

That said, La Mer’s Moisturizing Soft Cream is a bit lighter and softer, as the name suggests (not to mention cheaper). You might want to try it in the summer, when you don’t need as thick of a moisturizer or if you like a lighter feel. More than 1,000 Blue Mercury shoppers give it a five-star review. One shopper called it a “super moisturizer for sensitive skin,” adding, “It’s the best. You can’t go [back] to any other product once you have experienced La Mer.”

“Worth every penny,” wrote another shopper in the reviews. “Have tried to find a substitute many times, but nothing beats the way my face looks with La Mer.”

Both products go a long way — a 2-ounce jar will last you about five months — although the brand says its products should be used within six months for best results. Snag the moisturizers on sale while you can, and head to Blue Mercury to check out more of La Mer’s top sellers on sale, including The Eye Concentrate and The Revitalizing Hydrating Serum.
