Kylie Jenner removed her lip fillers. Here's how it may impact her young fans.

Motherhood seems to have transformed Kylie Jenner. The 20-year-old reality TV star admitted over the weekend she “got rid of all” her lip filler, the cosmetic product that was injected to create her signature plump lips and helped her to launch — and constantly promote — her makeup empire, Kylie Cosmetics. The change came as a shock to many of Jenner’s fans, who have closely monitored her lip shifts over the years. However, experts agree her decision to give up lip injections didn’t happen overnight.

“Dissolving lip filler involves the injection of a product called hyaluronidase. The product takes about two to three weeks to fully dissolve the unwanted based filler,” Douglas Senderoff, board-certified plastic surgeon of Park Avenue Aesthetic Surgery, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. He explains hyaluronidase comes from a family of enzymes that dissolves hyaluronic acid, which is what most fillers are made of.

Senderoff says that although some swelling can be seen in the area where it is injected, this usually resolves within a few days.

Will Jenner’s new natural look have an effect on her young fans, who have followed suit on her lip-enhancement journey?

First, followers tried to achieve her plump pout with the “Kylie Jenner Lip challenge,” a dangerous viral fad from 2015 where people suctioned their lips with cups until they swelled, creating a fuller look. Others rushed to purchase Kylie Lip Kits to achieve the same exaggerated lips. And after Jenner admitted that her secret was not a simple lip liner makeup trick but in fact lip fillers, many decided to take the extreme measure too.

Experts say it’s possible for Jenner’s fans to also embrace their natural lips — but her change of mind might be too late, thanks to social media.

Plastic surgery trends with celebrities are very powerful. However, I have noticed that the momentum of these trends are difficult to reverse, even when the celebrities themselves change their decisions,” explains Wright A. Jones, a plastic surgeon and founder of Muse Plastic Surgery. “My prediction is that the lip filler trend will continue to rise over the next year and then start to taper off. The ideas implanted into the minds of millennials do not shift quite as fast as that information travels throughout social media and the rest of the internet.”
