Kris Jenner's Hairstylist Reveals Why She Decided to Wear a Blonde Bob Two Hours Before the 2019 Met Gala

For Kris Jenner's 2019 Met Gala look, daughter knew best. Although Hollywood's most prominent momager graced the red carpet in an asymmetrical blunt blonde bob, that wasn't originally the plan. Hours before the big event, Jenner planned to channel David Bowie, her hairstylist for the occasion, Jorge Serrano, tells Allure. "But with just one phone call from Kylie Jenner, we switched gears and decided to give her a blonde bob instead," he says. "Two hours before we had to start getting her ready, I got a call from Kris herself asking me to shop for a blonde wig because Kylie thought she should be blonde, and she was right!"

Despite the last-minute change, one thing remained the same: They knew they wanted to do something that Kris has never done before, Serrano explains. And he accomplished just that. "This look is different from anything she's ever done," he adds. Unlike the blonde looks Kris has tried in the past, "The wig's length is long. It's also blunt with a slight A-line and a severe side part with a shade of blonde that is buttery and delicious."

To accomplish this brand-new aesthetic, Serrano didn't top Kris's head with a wig right off the rack. Instead, he created a custom wig for the occasion. It started off pretty long, so Serrano started off by cutting off a few inches to give it that sleek, blunt line that defined the look. Then, he blew it out with the help of the Shu Uemura Blow Dry Beautifier and a Mason Pearson brush to amplify its glossiness.

For added shine, he racked the Unite U Argan Oil throughout the wig. Finally, he flat-ironed one-inch sections and spritzed on the Unite Maxcontrol Spray.

"I had a hard time finding the right shade of blonde," Serrano admits of the wig's butter-like color. He was so specific about what he wanted that he ended up coloring the wig himself. It's not quite platinum, not quite golden. It's somewhere in between to give Kris the blonde she truly deserves. I'd say it's chardonnay blonde, but I don't want to go overboard here.

Hopefully, this isn't the last we see of this fun wig — not only because of the time Serrano put into it but because it suits her so well. Paired with glitzy blue eye shadow, she looked absolutely gorgeous. Kylie really does know best.
