As COVID-19 cases continue to spike across the country, many states have required people to wear face masks while in public. Several major retailers—including Costco, Starbucks, Walmart, and Sam's Club—have also announced a mask mandate for customers shopping in their stores. Joining the growing list of retailers, Kohl's will require shoppers to wear face masks starting next week.

The retailer announced the new store policy on Wednesday. "As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, face covering mandates have grown to apply to approximately 70% of our store base, therefore we’ve made the decision to take a consistent approach across our entire store fleet," the retailer, which operates more than 1,100 stores, said in a statement. "Beginning Monday, July 20, we will require all customers to wear a face covering while shopping in our stores."

There will be signage at the front of the store informing customers of the new face covering policy. Associate greeters will also be stationed at the entrance of every store to welcome customers and remind them to wear masks.

Other new safety measures Kohl's has implemented include enhanced daily cleaning, touchless building entry, protective barriers at all registers, sanitizing carts between each use, limited occupancy, and signage throughout stores to help maintain social distancing. Temperature checks are required for employees, who must wear masks and gloves while working.
