The HBO Max special has been postponed again.

HBO's We Are Who We Are marks director Luca Guadagnino's very first TV project after prestige films Suspiria and Call Me By Your Name.

While at first glance, the miniseries may seem like a riff on his earlier projects (a coming-of-age drama set in Italy), the series is set on a military base and not in a lush seaside villa — and the director insists it's much more.

"I will never complain about people’s laziness, but that [comparison] sounds very lazy," he told Variety. "Call Me by Your Name is about the past seen through the prism of a cinematic narrative and this is about the here and now. This is about the bodies and souls of now. I think they are so different."

Who is in We Are Who We Are?

The cast includes Jack Dylan Grazer from IT playing opposite Jordan Kristine as well as Chloë Sevigny, Alice Braga, and Francesca Scorsese, who plays a character named Britney.

She's described as an "outspoken, witty, sexually uninhibited girl" and part of the main friend group that the show focuses on.

In addition to being the spawn of a legendary Hollywood director, Francesca has had bit parts in Boardwalk Empire and Hugo as well as The Aviator and The Departed, which almost all connect back to her dad. She's also starred in other non-Scorcese projects, like Wolf at the Door, though We Are Who We Are is her first major TV project.

Who is Francesca Scorsese?

As her last name indicates, Francesca Scorsese is the daughter of famed director Martin Scorcese. Though she hails from a famous family, the 20-year-old has proven herself to be a top actor already. She's already appeared in The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), and Hugo (2011).

She gained media attention in 2019 when she trolled her dad's controversial jab at Marvel movies (he called them "not cinema") by wrapping all of his Christmas gifts in Marvel paper and posting about it.

What is We Are Who We Are about?

IndieWire describes the sure-to-be intricate plot like this: "Fraser and Caitlin become friends, and their burgeoning relationship is tested as the two teens face personal dilemmas while coming of age."

Is there a trailer for We Are Who We Are?

HBO released the trailer for the show on August 30.

How many episodes will there be?

We Are Who We Are spans eight episodes and while it's Guadagnino's TV debut, he treated it just like one of his movies. He also hinted at the possibility of more after the show's initial run.

"I feel like on the one hand that this is a new film of mine," he told Variety. "It feels like a movie to me, but I enjoyed the episodic-ness of the story. This is a series and it depends on how it clicks with an audience if we will see these people again. I have sort of a penchant for bringing back to life characters that I love. I truly love all the characters in this show. The greatness of doing TV is that if there's a good outcome, this can come back, which would be beautiful to me."

When does We Are Who We Are start?
