HOLLAND — A restaurant in downtown Holland is closing after just under a year of business.

Kitchen Zero, located at 64 W. Eighth St, announced on Facebook Thursday, April 14, that it would be closing its doors for good. The crepe-focused eatery opened less than a year ago, welcoming its first customers May 11, 2021.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the closing of Kitchen Zero,” owners Kylie and Kevin Knight wrote in a Facebook post sharing the news. “While it was a tough decision to make, it was made in the best interest of our family.”

The Knights also own Market Zero, which is located next to Kitchen Zero and opened in May 2020. They said that business will remain open in the Facebook post.

Kiley Knight told The Sentinel Friday that a lack of traffic into Kitchen Zero and trying to manage two businesses played into the decision to close.

“Market Zero has been doing pretty well with the pandemic and everything going on. Kitchen Zero just couldn’t catch on for some reason,” she said. “We had to put most of our efforts into Market Zero since it was busier. That and not having a whole lot of foot traffic down here (made it difficult).

“We’re disappointed but very thankful for the people that did come in and support us and enjoyed the experience we provided. Hopefully we can continue providing a great experience at Market Zero.”

Kitchen Zero featured sweet and savory crepes, grain bowls, smoothie bowls, fried eggs, bacon and potatoes.

It was originally scheduled to open in 2019 under the name Crepe Craft, but the storefront was abandoned by owner Tim Tattan. It sat seemingly ready to open with a finished interior and crepe machines for months before the Knights elected to take over.
