When Game of Thrones aired its series finale back in May 2019, did you really think that was the end? That HBO would leave well enough alone? Seriously?
We're not referencing the upcoming Game of Thrones-adjacent series House of the Dragon and The Tales of Dunk and Egg, by the way. We're talking about a major dispatch from The Hollywood Reporter, which reveals that Game of Thrones will get somewhat of a sequel series. According to the outlet, Kit Harington will return to the role that nabbed him two Emmy nominations, in "a live-action spin-off series centered on the fan-favorite character Jon Snow." Whew! More on Mr. Snow in a second. From a larger, Game of Thrones perspective, this marks what might be a change in direction for the franchise—meaning that we could see what happened to characters like Arya and Sansa Stark going forward, opposed to just watching prequel series in perpetuity.
What about our friend Jon Snow? Well, he managed to survived the bloody events of the Game of Thrones finale, for one. He found out his name was actually Aegon Targaryen, meaning he could take up the Iron Throne. But he was exiled from Westeros as the series drew to a close. A solo series focused on the character could follow him in his quest North of the Wall, encountering various foes and discovering what it means to be a Targaryen. As for the actor, Kit Harington, it looks like he'll have to find some free time amidst what's likely a busy shooting schedule for his Marvel Cinematic Universe pursuits. Either way, we're about to see much more of the man in the coming years.
