Kings deliver NBA's first wild ending of the season with Buddy Hield tip-in in OT win

With possession of the ball and less than seven seconds remaining in overtime, the Denver Nuggets had a chance to either open their season with a thrilling win or go to double overtime.

They somehow lost.

What was supposed to be an attempt at a game-winner against the Sacramento Kings instead turned into a Harrison Barnes steal, a missed dunk and a buzzer-beating tip-in winner by Buddy Hield for a 124-122 Kings win.

Here’s how it went down:

You can’t blame the Kings for immediately sprinting to the locker room after that one.

What preceded that ending was only a little less ridiculous. The Nuggets had a chance to effectively put the game away seconds earlier when they were up two points with 13.2 seconds left.

Will Barton essentially had the win in his hands when an inbounds play gave him the ball with absolutely no one in front of him in the paint. And then, De’Aaron Fox swooped in for a chase-down block that eventually turned into a game-tying transition lay-up.

So two chances to put the game away, with both almost immediately turning into Kings baskets. Welcome back, NBA games.
