King Charles jokingly compares Britons and French during Versailles banquet

King Charles jokingly compared French and British people as he attended his first state banquet in France as monarch on Wednesday, 20 September.

“The French have wine, the English have humour,” His Majesty said as he smiled at Emmanuel Macron in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles.

The King also spoke about Queen Elizabeth II’s ties to France as he recalled the “firm friendship” between the nations.

Speaking of his mother’s first official visit to France in 1948, King Charles recalled how she danced to Edith Piaf and said “La Vie En Rose” is one of his favourite songs.
