Kim Kardashian’s First Selfie of 2017 Is All About the Lip Ring

Just a day after making her return to Instagram by posting a sweet image of her family, Kim Kardashian is back on Snapchat as well — and wearing an unexpected accessory.

The 36-year-old television personality posted a shot with her mother, Kris Jenner, in which she’s wearing a black satin blazer and a lip ring. She captioned the image, “first selfie of 2017 with my mama.”

Although it’s unclear whether the ring was real or fake, this isn’t the first time the Kardashian sister has been spotted wearing the jewelry. At her mother’s annual holiday party in December, she wore an attention-grabbing Rodarte golden dress with a lip ring and a bejeweled cross choker.

Kardashian could be trying to start the new trend in 2017, but many celebrities have worn lip rings — real and fake — in recent years to make fashion statements.

Top model Cara Delevingne accessorized a menswear-inspired look with the edgy jewelry piece in London last year.

Pop star Rihanna, who, like Kardashian, is known for never shying away from making a fashion statement, has experimented with assorted jewelry pieces.

Last year she posted a number of shots on her Instagram account wearing a gold grill that also featured a lip ring loop.

Lady Gaga has also experimented with the trend. In 2015, the singer posted an image wearing psychedelic sunglasses with a ring on her upper lip.
