If you were scrolling on Twitter like the rest of us early last summer when it was announced that Kim Kardashain West would be creating her own shapewear line, then you’re probably well aware of the new brand’s fair share of controversy. Kim, whose no stranger to cultural appropriation accusations, was previously called out for attempting to trademark and brand a significant Japanese cultural heritage item — the Kimono. After receiving backlash on Twitter and a note directly from the mayor of Kyoto, Kim finally changed the name and the brand we’ve all come to know as SKIMS was born. Skims officially launched on September 10th and sold out in literal minutes with a profit of over 2 million. If you blinked and missed out, then you’re in luck because Kim is back with a new release and this time around it’s 100% cotton.
Dubbed the, “Cotton Collection,” Kim’s new release strays far from her previous collection comprised of nylon and spandex. According to Hypebae the line is said to be designed for maximum comfort when lounging around at home, including slip dresses, leggings, t-shirts, tanks, bras, and underwear. Like her previous SKIMS collection, each piece can be worn as underwear or layered for the outdoors.
With thongs priced at $18 and bras at $56, this collection will not break the bank while it also keeps up with the company’s mission of inclusion as the brand’s muted hued shapewear ranges in size from XXS to 4XL. If you’re interested in purchasing pieces from the new collection then keep your finger on the refresh button because the launch is slated to drop at 12 p.m. EST on October 15 only on Skims.com.
