Kim Kardashian has released a true crime podcast but not everyone is happy about it

Kim Kardashian’s interest in the criminal justice system is no secret. Having passed her baby bar exam in December last year, the reality TV star turned business mogul can now continue her legal studies and will be able to take the ‘full bar’ exam. She's also dipped her toe into the world of true crime, taking her passion one step further by launching a podcast.

The System launched on Spotify on Monday 3 October and explores the story of Ohio man, Kevin Keith, and his attempts to prove his innocence. Kardashian is joined as host by criminal justice reform advocate, Lori Rothschild Ansaldi.

For context, Keith was sentenced to death for triple murder in 1994, but this was later reduced to life without parole in 2010 by former Governor Ted Strickland. Speaking about Keith's case on Twitter, Kardashian said: "I heard about this case 3 years ago and have been questioning it ever since."

In the first episode, she tells Keith: "I'm really hopeful with this podcast, just to get your story out there, because I think it's so important for people to understand that… our system is so fucked up."

After the first episode aired, Kardashian fans rushed to Twitter to share their excitement at her new venture. "Ok, Kim!! Sounds good so far. I’m in! Side note: You have a podcast voice👌🏽,” said one user. "Kimberly has slayed in her entrance to the true crime world. Her podcast is golden," another user remarked.

But not everyone was as supportive. "Kim Kardashian has a true crime podcast now? That’s not weird or gross or out of touch at all," one user claimed. Someone else voiced their disappointment with: "Kim Kardashian has a podcast where she barely talks and literally just plays audio from court hearings and other people talking about the case she's referring to."

This is not the first time that the SKIMS founder has advocated for wrongly convicted individuals however. Most notably, Kardashian worked with 67-year-old Alice Marie Johnson, who was sentenced to life in prison for a nonviolent drug charge and spent over two decades behind bars.

When Kardashian heard of her case, she made it her mission to get Johnson out of prison and thanks to a high-profile campaign organised by the reality star, Johnson was awarded early release in 2018.
