Kim Kardashian has opened up about her Met Gala weight loss in a new interview, explaining that it's "completely changed [her] lifestyle." The Skims founder sparked controversy in May earlier this year by wearing Marilyn Monroe's famous "Happy Birthday Mr. President" dress to the illustrious event.

During the event, Kim confirmed that she'd lost 16 lbs in three weeks to fit into the dress, which received a mixed response from fans and critics alike – with many pointing out that it's unhealthy, not to mention unsustainable, to lose so much weight in such a short period of time. (The recommended safe and sustainable amount of weight to lose per week is 1 to 2 lbs.)

In a new interview with the Today show, Kim confirmed that she's continued to lose weight following the Met Gala, telling the show's presenters, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, that she's now lost 21 lbs overall but is not "trying to lose any more weight" and has "more energy than ever."

Kim discussed her weight loss for the Met Gala, comparing it to preparing for a role, saying, "I looked at it like a role and I really wanted to wear this dress. It was really important to me."

She continued, "Since then, afterwards, I continued to eat really healthy [...] I cut out so much sugar — a lot of junk food I was eating, I didn't realise, like a lot of fried foods. And I just completely changed my lifestyle."

It's not the first time Kim has defended her comments about weight loss. She responded to the Met Gala backlash by telling the New York Times:

"I didn’t do anything unhealthy. To me it was like, 'OK, Christian Bale can do it for a movie role and that is acceptable'. Even Renée Zellweger gained weight for a role. It’s all the same to me. I wasn’t saying, 'Hey everyone, why don’t you go lose this weight in a short period of time?'"
