Kim Cattrall was once a prominent figure in the now iconic HBO series Sex and the City. Playing Samantha Jones, the powerful public relations executive who successfully managed her own firm, she was a fan favourite during the show's six-season stretch.

But even back in 2017 when there was talk of a third movie, (and when AJLT was just a mere twinkle in Darren Star's eyes) she made her feelings clear that she didn't want to reprise her role as Samantha. In a new interview for Variety, she said: "It's a great wisdom to know when enough is enough. I also didn't want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear."

And for hardcore SATC fans everywhere, she's also recently shared some of the reasons for her not returning, including a plotline that she wasn't too comfortable with.

ICYMI, instead of making the decision to not mention Cattrall's character at all, her co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis weaved in a storyline where Samantha Jones does exist - just not on-screen. FYI, she now permanently resides in London.

One of the storylines that the 65-year-old actress couldn't imagine getting her teeth into was Samantha receiving inappropriate and unwanted images from Brady, Miranda's 14-year-old son. The Sex and the City writers were reportedly planning to feature the plotline that Cattrall called "heartbreaking", and she expressed that the narrative didn't feel fitting for Samantha (via E!).

Feeling she had better ideas for her character, Cattrall said: "Why can't Samantha, who owns her PR company—maybe she had to sell it because of financial woes? I mean that's a scenario that was kind of off the top of one of my reps' heads, and I thought that's a great idea. That's a conflict. Instead of an underage boy's..."

Alongside this, when talking about the movies, Kim simply felt as though history was repeating itself. "Can you imagine going back to a job you did 25 years ago?" she said. "And the job didn't get easier, it got more complicated in the sense of how are you going to progress with these characters? Everything has to grow, or it dies."

Well, looks like that's all cleared up then. We wish Samantha Jones all the best with her London life!

As of March 21st, AJLT has been confirmed for a second season.
