What will Horizon: An American Saga be about?

The series will center around the pre- and post-Civil War expansion. It'll walk viewers through the settlement of the American West and give moviegoers a taste of more than one perspective, which will show just how dangerous (yet captivating) this experience was for those who lived through it. The story will also cover the land's indigenous community, and challenges regarding the land's natural elements will take the forefront of the film.

Is there a trailer?

Yes, finally! A three-minute trailer was dropped on February 26, giving fans a chance to see Costner as the cowboy he was destined to be. He's still as stern as ever, but there's just a certain suaveness to the way that he carries himself as this new character. The trailer is filled with dramatic music and what appears to be some heart-wrenching family moments as well as heated encounters between foes.

When does Horizon: An American Saga premiere?

Since Horizon is a two-part saga, there's not just one, but two premiere dates! Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 will release in theaters on June 28, 2024. The second part of the saga will continue just a few short months later. Chapter 2 will release in theaters on August 16, 2024.

However, before the movie is available to the public, it was announced that Costner would debut his project at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The actor also posted the news to his Instagram account.

"I’d like to thank the Festival de Cannes for including my film Horizon: An American Saga in this year’s selection," he captioned the post. "#HorizonAmericanSaga is a story that began 35 years ago, and I can’t think of a better place than Cannes to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure."

Who's in the cast?

Horizon: An American Saga's current cast is nothing short of great, either.

It is known that Costner will be starring in the film. What's even more exciting is that Costner's son, Hayes, will also have an on-screen part, too. "He's very good," Costner told PEOPLE in November 2022. "Hayes plays the namesake character that I play in the movie."

Fans of the recent season of Stranger Things will also be delighted to learn that Jamie Campbell Bower—who played the infamous villain, Vecna—will take on a leading role in the film. The rest of the star-studded cast includes Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Sam Worthington (Avatar), Jeff Fahey (Lost), and Luke Wilson (Legally Blonde). That's not all! There will also be appearances by Isabelle Fuhrman, Thomas Haden Church, Jena Malone, Alejandro Edda, Tatanka Means, Michael Rooker, Ella Hunt, Tom Payne, Abbey Lee, Wasé Chief, Tim Guinee, Michael Angarano, Colin Cunningham, Scott Haze, Angus Macfadyen, Douglas Smith, and Jon Beavers.

Yellowstone fans will be delighted to know that most of the filming for Horizon: An American Saga has taken place in southern Utah (which is also a filming location for the Paramount show). More specifically, some scenes were shot in Washington County, aka an area famous for its red rock landscapes and mountainous backdrops. This was confirmed last year after a casting call was made by the movie's casting director, Maryellen Aviano.
