Kesha Frolics With Bunnies To Promote Cruelty-Free Makeup

Kesha’s got a thing for furry creatures. Not only did she name her debut album Animal, but she’s also got a soft spot for their well-being.

Now, the pop star is teaming up with The Humane Society in an effort to stop cosmetics companies from testing their potentially harmful products on animals, as they do each year on tens of thousands of rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, and more. It’s more prevalent than you might realize: According to The Vegetarian Site, a plethora of your favorite beauty brands — including Cover Girl, Herbal Essences, Pantene, and M.A.C — still test on animals.

With this new campaign, which includes a PSA of Kesha getting ready for a night out with some adorable rescued rabbits, she hopes to change that. “Once I was educated about the hidden cruelties that lurk behind some cosmetic products companies, I knew I had to take action and do everything in my power to end this inhumane practice of testing our cosmetics on animals,” she says. “Around the globe tens of thousands of animals are killed in unnecessary tests for beauty products. Congress has introduced The Humane Cosmetics Act, a bill to end cosmetics testing on animals, in the United States.”

The rainbow-tressed star stresses that, in the meantime, there are still a bunch of cruelty-free brands and products to choose from. “It’s easy to avoid buying cosmetics tested on animals by only buying cruelty free products. The power lies with us and we don’t need to harm animals to be beautiful! My hope is that with the help of the HSUS’s BeCrueltyFree campaign, we can ignite a cruelty-free revolution and that the United States and other countries join the 30+ others who have already banned egregious cosmetic animal tests. Let’s #BeCrueltyFree!”

Kesha has been a Humane Society ambassador for several years now, helping get the word out about the organization’s political agenda, as well as promoting her stance as a “street dog defender.” (The video for the latter just made me cry, literally. Poor puppies.)

To prove her latest point, about being beautiful without hurting bunnies in the process, Kesha’s put together a list of her favorite cruelty-free beauty brands, including Youngblood, Urban Decay, Becca, OCC, Tarte, Hourglass, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Kryolan, Annabelle, and Lime Crime.

See? Chances are, you never even realized that some of the beauty world’s best brands were even cruelty-free to begin with. But as you know, knowledge is power — and in this case, to quote the inimitable Captain Planet… “The power is YOURS!”
