Kerry Washington never fails to step out in head-turning style and beauty looks. For the actress, chic sleekness is generally the name of the game, but she still knows how to serve a surprise every once in a while.
In true Olivia Pope fashion, Washington often wears her hair straight and glossy in lieu of showing off her naturally curly hair. But on Sunday, the Scandal star was spotted in Los Angeles with a voluminous curly Afro and wearing a laid-back denim dress.
Washington chose the natural look for a “Day of Indulgence” party. The star-studded event was a gifting gala that sent celebs home with everything from free coconut oil to designer toothbrushes to a free visit at a Napa Valley hotel. Clearly, it’s good to be Kerry Washington.
Washington doesn’t always wear her hair naturally, but it’s stunning every single time she does. Who could forget her voluminous Emmys look, featuring teased-out curls and an über baby bump? Hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew designed the style to be “very bold.”
Thanks to wigs, Washington frequently changes her look. Earlier this year, she wore her hair in a straightened bob with a side part to complement her all-white ensemble at a Neutrogena launch event.
Lately, she’s been adding blunt bangs and a middle part to her cropped bob for a modern sleekness.
Sometimes she’ll shake things up with a little more texture (and a gorgeous burgundy lip) — such as her look for the Writers Guild Awards.
As an A-Lister, she also has that red lip classic look down, especially when combined with a delicate chignon.
She’s also open to experimenting with looks, such as this crown of braids she wore to celebrate the youngest new Gladiator, courtesy of Scandal castmate Katie Lowes.
Washington’s experimentation may seem effortless, but she told Redbook last year that finding a hairstyle has been an effort. She’s spoken about about her decision to stop chemically straightening her hair.
“I’d been relaxing my hair since I was a little girl, so part of it was just wanting to see what would happen if I didn’t,” she said. “Quitting has been such a timesaver, and my hair feels much healthier now. It’s been fun getting to know my real curls.” Kerry, it’s fun for the fans too.
