Kendall Jenner might be a model, perhaps the most famous model on the planet right now (her Instagram account boasts 112 million followers), but underneath it all, she’s really just like us. Not convinced? Her latest selfie might surprise you. Just yesterday, she stopped by a bodega in New York City dressed in a ’90s supermodel favorite: a figure-hugging orange tank dress by Bec & Bridge. On her feet were a pair of strappy bedazzled heels; swinging fron her arm, a white handbag with a golden strap. The winning accessory? Not a Pepsi, but rather an Orange Vanilla Coke to match her dress. Jenner marked this very New York moment by posting a low-fi picture of herself on the security camera.

Jenner isn’t the first to experiment with the idea of the meta selfie. Back in 2016, they were all the rage with runway stars, including Ruby Aldridge who made surveillance footage a regular theme on her feed and Grace Hartzel who opted for a Big Brother-style convex mirror. With crumpled up paper strewn on the counter and specks on the tiled floor, Jenner’s gritty photo reads almost subversive in the era of perfectly photoshopped social media imagery. Even still, Jenner manages to capture all her best angles (does she have any bad ones?)—maybe this camera is not so candid after all.
