Kelsey Grammer is reportedly in talks to reboot Frasier
Kelsey Grammer, star of the award-winning NBC sitcom Frasier, wants to bring his 1990s sitcom Frasier back to TV screens.
According to Deadline, the former star and executive producer of the original series is exploring avenues through which to revive the hit series.
In talks with writers, Grammer has reportedly discussed rebooting the series in a new city, with his character Dr Frasier Crane providing a link to the original 1993 series.
If revived, Frasier would become one of a slew of 1990s sitcoms to reappear on screens, following the lead of Will & Grace and the forthcoming return of Murphy Brown.
However, unlike these series, Frasier would not be looking to continue the series with all of the original Seattle-based characters.
The original cast of the show included David Hyde Pierce as Frasier’s brother as Niles Crane; Jane Leeves as Daphne Moon, Frasier’s housekeeper and Niles’ love interest and John Mahoney, who died earlier this year as Martin Crane, Frasier's father.
A spinoff of Eighties sitcom Cheers, Frasier was based on the psychiatrist's move from Boston back to Seattle to be near his brother and father following his divorce. After a shooting in the line of duty leaves his police officer father injured, the pair begin living together and all sorts of comedic escapades ensue.
The series ran from 1993 to 2004 and in that time became the most critically-acclaimed comedy of all time with 37 Primetime Emmy awards and 3 Golden Globes among its enormous collection.
