Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are one of Hollywood's most beloved, long-term couples. They're playful. They're gorgeous. They appear to be transparent about their relationship highs and lows, and they've been going strong for over two decades, all while maintaining their often separate careers and raising three beautiful children. In other words, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' relationship timeline is adorable and makes it seem like their love story was ripped right out of a beloved children's fairytale.

Ripa and Consuelos met on the set of the soap opera All My Children in 1995. The producers were looking to cast the man who would eventually become the husband of Ripa's character, Hayley Vaughan. In an interview with SiriusXM's Radio Andy in 2018, Ripa told Bruce Bozzi that the producers had been looking to fill that role for some time and wanted a Latin actor. "So I had auditioned every Latino actor in the city and around the city and then California," Ripa said on the show. "I auditioned him."

She remembered that one day before she even met him, the show's casting director showed her a picture of him, and in it, she said she saw her future. "At that point, I was not a hopeless romantic. I never thought about getting married, it never occurred to me that I would grow old with someone," Ripa explained during the radio interview. "When I saw him, the photograph of him, I saw my entire future with him flash [before my eyes]. Like, I saw it. I [didn't] believe in any of that, and now I do because of that moment." Consuelos and Ripa co-starred in All My Children until they both left the show in 2001.

Consuelos told E! in 2006 that at that time he was just focused on getting the acting job, and he couldn't believe his luck when he did, especially after only being in New York for a short time. But looking back, he remembered having fond memories of his future spouse.

"My first impression of my wife was — she was obviously extremely beautiful — but she was really funny, really intelligent, really quick," he told E!. "I realized that if I was ever to get into an argument with her, I would lose every single time."

Soon after meeting during his audition, Ripa and Consuelos quickly (and quietly) started dating and didn't take their relationship public until the following year at the 1996 Soap Opera Digest Awards. A few months later, days after an argument that resulted in them not speaking to each other, Consuelos proposed to Ripa, the couple revealed in a clip that aired during an episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan.

"We went for a walk in the park. I convinced her to come back to my apartment," Consuelos said in the clip. "We had pizza and wine, and I asked her to marry me." Then, Ripa chimed in. "And I said, 'Ask me when you're serious.' And he said, 'I am serious. Let's go to Vegas tomorrow and get married.' I said yes."

The next morning, they were on a plane to Las Vegas. In 2016, Ripa told her morning show audience that she wore a $199 dress when they eloped that she had gotten on sale, Us Weekly reported. "I didn't buy it as a wedding dress," she said. "I just bought it because it was really pretty, and I wanted to buy something from the Barney's Warehouse sale." She re-wore the dress on their 20th anniversary.

A little over a year after they said "I do" in a Vegas wedding chapel, Ripa and Consuelos welcomed their first-born, Michael, who graduated from NYU with a film degree in May 2020.

Their onscreen counterparts didn't tie the knot in All My Children until 2000, three years and one child into Ripa and Consuelos' real-life marriage. "We fell in love long before our characters fell in love," Consuelos said about he and his wife, E! reported.

In June 2001, Ripa and Consuelos welcomed their daughter, Lola, who's now a student at NYU. According to Us Weekly, the parents chose their daughter's name because of the popular Barry Manilow song, "Copacabana." It was reportedly playing in the cab on the way to the hospital when Ripa was in labor. Upon hearing the lyrics, "her name was Lola," Ripa and Consuelos decided that would be their future daughter's name.

Two years later, the parents welcomed their third and final child, Joaquin.

As the couple approached their 10-year anniversary, they were working together more than they ever had before. Consuelos appeared in 10 episodes on Ripa's ABC sitcom, Hope & Faith, and, in 2007, they founded a New York-based production company named Milojo, which combined the names of their three children.

In a 2015 interview with E!, Consuelos reflected on the all the years he and his wife work so well together — in the industry and in life.

"It's funny, we were talking about it last night with our kids," he told the publication. "You know, we've been working together since '94, so almost 21 years in close capacity, and I think at the end of the day we really, really get each other. I'm extremely annoying, and she's very patient," he continued. "So I think that's also how something works, that's why it works."

Ripa and Consuelos are very open about their lives. They talk and post about their family, the ups and downs of their experiences as parents and as a couple, and even their sex lives. Nothing appears to be off-limits for them, and it's arguably one of the things that makes them such a lovable couple.

In 2015, when Ripa got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Consuelos and their three children were there to support her. In an emotional speech, she said it all started with All My Children.

"All My Children is where I met the man that I've been married to for almost 20 years, the love of my life, the man who taught me how to be a person — really, a real person — and we have three of the most beautiful children, that I'm so proud of, on the planet," she said in her speech.

That same year, Ripa spoke to AOL.com about how she and Consuelos have been able to maintain their healthy relationship for almost 20 years at that point, and she admitted they do have their hardships.

"There's going to be times where you look at each other like, 'I can't believe I live with you,' but open communication and strong listening skills can help carry you through hard times," she told the publication. "That's what you want in life, to have a good companion, somebody that loves you, that listens to you, and is your equal in every way."

When Michael Strahan left Live with Kelly for Good Morning America in May 2016, Ripa began hosting the show with numerous potential co-hosts before Ryan Seacrest joined permanently in May 2017. Consuelos co-hosted the show with his wife 13 times that year, and his name even floated around as a possible permanent co-host at the time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Though Consuelos did not end up joining Ripa's morning talk show full-time, they did work together again in 2018 when she made a guest appearance on Riverdale (Consuelo has been a part of the main cast of the Archie Comics TV show since its second season). Fittingly, Ripa played the mistress of Consuelos' Hiram Lodge, and also fittingly, she joked about it on Instagram, saying she was born to play that role.

Shortly after Ripa's Riverdale episode aired in January 2019, Consuelos talked to Us Weekly about how his wife got the role.

"[Riverdale creator] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] called me and said, 'Hey, I’ve got a question to ask you. Do you think she'd want to do it?' And I said, 'You know, yeah. Give her a call!' They spoke, and they figured it out," Consuelos told the publication. "Roberto's awesome, man. No one knows this world better than him. He just made it happen. I definitely did not ask for him to do that. I think he thought it would be so much fun."

Their oldest son, Michael, also guest-starred on the show in a flashback episode that took its viewers back to when Archie, Veronica, Betty, and Jughead's parents were in high school. Michael portrayed the teenaged version of his father's character, Hiram.

"I’m just thrilled," Consuelos told Us. "My son was on the show – that was like a bucket list moment for me – and now to have my wife on the show? We started working together, so that was also fun to do, because we haven't done that in such a long time."

Ripa and Consuelos are very candid about their sex life. During an episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan, the couple admitted their daughter Lola has apparently walked in on her parents having sex more than once, the last time being on Father's Day 2019, which also happened to fall on her 18th birthday. "Thanks for ruining my birthday. And thanks for ruining my life," Ripa recalled Lola telling them. "I used to see in color, and now everything is gray!"

They also never fail to joke with each other on social media, nor do they take themselves too seriously. In a playful tribute to his wife on her 49th birthday in October 2019, Consuelos wrote that if she were never born, he would've been married three or four times by now. Adding, "which would’ve been really expensive, not to mention the super tense parent teacher conferences and all the awkward blended family holiday/vacations."

On an episode of Radio Andy's Quarantined With Bruce in April 2020, Ripa and Consuelos talked about their sex life again, and she explained that finding each other at a young age has helped them maintain that sexual attraction over the course their marriage.

"We found each other at the right time in our lives, we were really young," Ripa said on the radio show. "We learned each other well. And with that comes a certain level of comfort and confidence and experimentation. We have fun. We enjoy [each other]." Then Consuelos chimed in, saying, "You check off all the boxes for me."

Ripa and Consuelos celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary in May 2020. They've spent the bulk of the year quarantining with their kids and taking their fans along for the beautiful ride that is their love.
