Kelly Clarkson is always keeping it real. As someone who was tossed into the spotlight right after winning American Idol in 2002, and is now on Season 5 of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, which airs every weekday, she spends a lot of time on camera and sharing the way she looks with the world.
The 41-year-old, who has lost 40 pounds this year, shared some insight on her weight loss journey on the Nov. 6 episode of her show with guests Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Bush.
The Grammy Award-winning singer displayed some photos of the twins when they were young girls on the screen behind her, and asked if they were always dressed alike. The women responded “yes,” but added that as they got older, they just started stealing each other’s clothes.
“But now I don’t fit into hers,” Jenna said, to which Clarkson jokingly added, “Ugh I don’t fit into my [own].”
Jenna quickly interrupted: “Are you joking? You look amazing,” and the whole audience began cheering.
“I love losing weight, but here’s the thing, jeans are so hard when you have a butt and a smaller waist,” the mom of two explained and added that she was aware this is a “first world problem.”
Clarkson’s public presence inevitably opens her up to tons of criticism, and the “Since U Been Gone” singer has spoken up before about how the scrutiny affects her. She’s noted that she’s both gained and lost weight over the past several years, which she has described as a “yo-yo” effect.
“I love how people think that’s new—like, ‘Welcome to the past 13 years,’” she previously said of the negativity she receives. “Sometimes I’m more fit and I get into kickboxing hardcore. And then sometimes I don’t, and I’m like I’d rather have wine.”
