Kelly Clarkson Finally Learned the True Story Behind *That* Iconic '40-Year-Old Virgin' Movie Line

From Country Living

  • Kelly Clarkson has finally learned the story behind the hilarious The 40-Year-Old Virgin joke featuring her name.

  • The truth came out when Kelly interviewed director Judd Apatow for her talk show this week.

Anyone who's seen The 40-Year-Old Virgin likely remembers the iconic moment when Steve Carrell's character screams out "Aaahh, Kelly Clarkson!" as he's reeling from the singular pain of getting his chest waxed.

Now, 15 years later, Kelly Clarkson has finally learned who was responsible for coming up with that simple yet spot-on tidbit of comedy.

The film's director, Judd Apatow, let Kelly in 0n the story behind the quote during a new interview this week on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

To explain, Judd shared a photo of a list of "curse words" that Steve had been given at the time as inspiration for the hilarious scene. The list featured a combination of profanity and silly alternative swears—and right smack dab in the middle was Kelly Clarkson's name.

So who added her moniker to the mix?

Well, according to Judd, Kelly's name was jotted in the handwriting of another 40-Year-Old Virgin star: Seth Rogen!

"I blame Seth as well," Kelly replied with a laugh. "That's actually amazing. I love that I made it between 'burger patties' and 'throbbing monkey-tail.' "

"It doesn't matter what I do in my life," the singer added jokingly. "No one remembers me for anything other than that."

This isn't the first time that Kelly has paid tribute to this classic movie moment. Last year, she invited Steve to reprise his famous line to introduce the first episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. Kelly sure knows how to make an entrance!

We love this unforgettable line almost as much as Kelly's awesome sense of humor.
