Kellogg’s Is Giving Away Free Cereal Every Morning for the Rest of the Week

Cereal: if you can handle gluten, you probably love it. Even if you don’t love it now, you probably have some fond childhood memories attached to it. And while those sugary cereals still command a lot of attention, there’s a case to be made that this stuff can be relatively good for you if you know how to pick the right options.

While General Mills is touting a pricey $13 a box cereal brand as the key to healthy morning eating, Kellogg’s is going in pretty much the opposite direction — for a short while at least. In honor of National Breakfast Week, they’ll be giving away free boxes of Frosted Mini Wheats and Raisin Bran to mark the occasion.

As you might’ve gleaned from that Instagram caption, this isn’t a “just because” giveaway to celebrate a food holiday. Instead, it’s part of a campaign to push people to add more dietary fiber to their diets, which Americans aren’t getting enough of, according to a survey of more than 2,000 American adults cited by Kellogg’s in a press release. Apparently 73 percent of respondents said they understood the importance of a breakfast high in fiber… but only 17 percent of consumers actually follow through and eat it.

That’s why Kellogg’s is giving away a free week’s worth of their high-fiber cereals, hoping it will help consumers realize how easy it can be to change their habits. To be among those lucky recipients, simply go to this page on the Kellogg’s Family Rewards website and take a pledge to eat more fiber. A limited quantity of free cereal will be given out each morning between now and Friday March 6.

Kellogg’s (hopefully) isn’t going to clandestinely track your eating habits to make sure you’re adhering to the terms of the fiber pledge, but hey, maybe you’ll actually like it. At the very least, a free week of Raisin Bran or Frosted Mini Wheats should at least leave your wallet feeling a tiny bit healthier.
