Keira Knightley Returns to the Red Carpet in Vivienne Westwood Corsetry
Keira Knightley is certainly no stranger to a corset, after starring in a whole host of period dramas in the past, from Pride & Prejudice to The Duchess. Perhaps it’s no surprise, then, that the actor opted for Vivienne Westwood corsetry for a rare red-carpet appearance in New York on Tuesday night.
For a screening of her new film Boston Strangler, Knightley wore a black taffeta dirndl dress from Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood’s spring 2023 collection, featuring delicate sequin embellishment and a recycled jacquard lining. Completing the elegant look, she added a pair of studded open-toe sandals by Chanel and a tennis necklace by Scandi designer Sophie Bille Brahe.

Although Knightley has previously described wearing tight corsets on set as “positively awful”, it makes sense that the actor has been drawn in by the allure of Westwood’s far less restrictive corsetry. Other famous fans include the likes of Adele, who wore a custom-made couture piece on the cover of British Vogue back in 2021, as well as Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa and FKA Twigs.
Following the sad news of Westwood’s passing in December at the age of 81, demand for the designer’s iconic corsets is only set to increase. Expect to see more Westwood on the red carpet in the months to come.
