Keanu Reeves deals in diamonds and danger in first 'Siberia' trailer (exclusive)

It might have seemed like an unlikely fate during his initial rise to superstardom in the 1980s, but from hits like Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Keanu Reeves has grown into one of American movies’ finest action stars. That’s been proven most recently by his stellar work in the John Wick franchise, and it’s reconfirmed by the first trailer for his new thriller, Siberia, which indicates that he’ll soon be back in the business of wielding firearms to protect himself and those he most loves.

Directed by Matthew Ross (who wrote and directed Frank and Lola), Siberia will feature Reeves as Lucas Hill, a loner who makes a living procuring and selling rare diamonds on the black market. That profession seems destined to lead to trouble, and sure enough, Hill soon finds himself in hot water when a deal with a menacing Russian underworld bigwig (Pasha D. Lychnikoff) goes sour, and he becomes a target of hit men in the sleepy Siberian town in which he’s now residing. More problematic still, Hill has fallen into a relationship with the owner (Ana Ularu) of a local cafe — which means he’s forced to not only fend off those looking to end his life (with a rifle) but to safeguard his paramour from falling victim to these shoot-first adversaries in the snowy wilds of Russia.

Co-starring Aleks Paunovic, Veronica Ferres, and Molly Ringwald (who’s nowhere to be found in the above trailer), and written by Scott B. Smith (A Simple Plan), Siberia debuts in theaters, On Demand, and digital HD on July 13.
