Katy Perry Just Shut Down People Who Think Maternity Leave Is ‘Time Off’

Katy Perry seems to be settling into motherhood nicely after giving birth to her and Orlando Bloom’s daughter, Daisy Dove, in August. She hasn’t been afraid to show the non-glamorous side of her current life, either—posting a mirror selfie just days after giving birth.

Now she’s tweeting her solidarity with other moms about how hard the job truly is. “Popular misconception: being a mom isn’t a full-time job,” she wrote. While we’re not sure how many people would argue with that point, it’s never a bad thing to celebrate the hard work of parents in the world.

“Part 2: when a mom finally goes back to work (whatever profession they do) it’s not like they been coming from months of ‘time off…’ she’s coming from a full time job… of being a mom, lol,” she continued. “Part 3: call your mom and tell her you love and appreciate her and advocate for paid family leave!”

Finally, she added, “Part 4. I love my job.”

Daisy is Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s first child together, though he has a son from his previous marriage to Miranda Kerr. The couple announced announced her birth on UNICEF’s Instagram (they both serve as ambassadors for the organization).

“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” they said at the time. “But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes. Since COVID-19 many more newborn lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.”
